The SWIVELOC™ manhole cover restraint system is the latest innovation in manhole cover restraint and safety. It prevents flying manhole covers during underground vault explosions. The SWIVELOC™ design vents the diffused gases in a controlled fashion during an explosion while retaining the cover in the seat of the frame. Vault explosions can occur due to gas build-up from degraded cable insulation caused by cable overheating. The introduction of flammable liquids into a vault such as gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel, etc, are also causes of explosive events.
